Almost every Nigerian under-graduate can relate to the problem afore mentioned because a lot of Nigerian youths attend federal universities. It beats ones imagination to know that the cause of the current strike is the fact that the lecturers/ professors want their retirement age to be increased by about five years. The irony is that their counterparts in other countries want their own retirement age to be reduced. For crying out loud, some lecturers are so old that their hands are constantly shivering as they write on the board. In a country where declaration of your real age is practically impossible, for Christ sake are these people serious or are they just plain lazy?? The government tells parents to send their wards to school, parents do,then the teachers send the wards back to their parents, what an irony I must say!
A four year course is finished in six years and a six year course is finished in eight or nine years due to this strike but as my mama go talk, when two elephants fight,na grass dey suffer. Students are now back home, no one is sure when the strike will be over because the papers said it was to be an indefinite strike. I urge you students however to make the most of the strike. Don’t just sit at home waiting for the next seasonal movie to watch, learn something, anything. Learn to dance, learn to fry akara, learn to sing, learn to skate, learn to sew, form a dance group, learn a skill,do small okada biz, get a temporary job, whatever works for you, but don’t just sit down and do nothing. Naija go better but it starts with you,the youths of these country..
The government should in my honest opinion dissolve this body of ill rather than good, and any attempt to resurrect it should be sanctioned mercilessly.
